Mumbai Glocal Art Initiatives, Mumbai 2015

Mumbai Glocal is an Art Initiative by a group of nine Mumbai based artists.

Mumbai Glocal founded by- Sanjeev Sonpimpare and Hemanta Roul in 2010

We are an artist-run group, placing ourselves as a counter-balance to existing Art World belief Systems and work with “ground zero realities” through aesthetic interventions, creating public awareness of contemporary visual art, creating a dialogue and holding Art events/exhibitions.We have been having discussions, and working together on parallel and diverse concerns. Activities like working at different locations, inviting artists from diverse fields who work with various mediums and disciplines are one of the activities that we would engage in further. And we find it important to become a vital strand of artistic diversity and free-thinking in an art-world increasingly dominated by market forces and curatorial conformity."

The Group is a thriving democracy of artists, practicing in various disciplines, from painting and sculpture, photography, to moving image. Operating in the interstices between existing arts institutions, the Group’s focus today is on self-generated exhibitions. Curated and managed by its artist members, these events aim to offer a serious and alternative perspective to contemporary visual arts in India. Collaborating and working with Artists groups from other countries of interest, is also one of the agendas.

We would be inviting more artists from various disciplines to join us in our endeavor and further create a “viable space”, for dialogue and sustenance. Mumbai Glocal also aims at appreciation and bringing forward, meaningful art practice, Art and artists that have a promising involvement and consistency.
